History[]

Game of Thrones[]

During the marriage between Lord Edmure Tully of Riverrun and Roslin Frey, one of Lord Walder's many daughters, the Freys celebrate with the Northern and Riverlands bannermen who fight for House Stark and House Tully. However, when The Rains of Castamere begins playing inside the castle, the Freys betray the Starks and Tullys and begin to slaughter the Stark host. Assisted by their new allies - House Bolton and their bannermen, House Whitehill, and supported by House Lannister - the Freys easily overpower the drunken host, suffering few casualties in the process. This act of breaking the laws of sacred hospitality would become known as the Red Wedding.

For their treachery, the Freys are awarded Riverrun, the ancestral seat of House Tully. (Iron From Ice)
