Shadow is a snow bear from beyond the Wall that shares a bond with Josera Snow. He allows Josera to warg into him and control his body.

The Ice Dragon[]
Shadow is first seen stalking Gared, Sylvi and Cotter as they make their way to the North Grove. While warged into by Josera Snow, he attacks the party and is impaled in the shoulder by Gared before falling into an ice lake and disappearing.
The group reaches the North Grove with Shadow again in pursuit, but upon Josera Snow warging out of him, he becomes less aggressive. From then on, Shadow does not pose a threat to Gared and his party.
He is again seen fighting against Wights, during which he/Josera and Gared work well together - it seems as if Josera warming up to Gared also influences Shadow's disposition.
